While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world and breath underwater!

Discover Scuba / Scuba Discovery Class Overview

Try Scuba with Nautilus Aquatics

Starting in the store the instructor will review the Discover Scuba Diving / Scuba Discovery pamphlet, equipment, and basic scuba skills.  Up to 90 minutes are spent in the pool where participants can safely put their new skills to use!

During Discover Scuba / Scuba Discovery, the following topics will be covered… and more!

  • Basic overview of physics/physiology and how it relates to diving
    • Buoyancy
    • Pressure
    • Equalization techniques
  • The aquatic environment
  • Scuba equipment
  • Underwater communications
  • Safety Considerations for Scuba

Some of the in-water skills you will perform includes

  • Ear clearing and equalization
  • Buoyancy compensator device (BCD) use
  • Buoyancy control
  • Regulator use
  • Breathing, clearing, and recovery
  • Mask clearing
  • Underwater swimming: proper use of fins
  • Use of gauges
  • Underwater communications

There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to –after all, human beings weren’t designed to do that – but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, most participants realize how easy scuba diving really is. The biggest challenge instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is not coaxing participants into the water, but getting them out when the program is over.
